Hornets’ Swimming sets high goals right off the block

Varsity swimming returned to Lynchburg this year after a hiatus dating back to the 1970-71 academic year.

After exceeding their own expectations this season, the program’s 28 men and women have a lot to celebrate and much to look forward to, according to head coach Brad Dunn.

Lynchburg Teams Congratulate the New Varsity Swim Team

The University of Lynchburg swim club made a transition into a varsity team and started a long journey toward success this semester. 

At the beginning of that journey, some of their fellow teams hopped on Twitter to celebrate. The first team to do so was the Lynchburg Women’s Basketball team in response to a tweet that the swim team sent out about the first day of their season.

UofL Equestrian Begins Their Quest

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the University of Lynchburg Lady Hornets Equestrian team went head-to-head against Fresno State University in their Inaugural National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) meet. Unfortunately, the Lady Hornets were defeated by Fresno State University by a score of 2 to 6. Second-year senior equestrian team member Taylor Herzog received points in both flat and fences.
Although the team did not get the result that it wanted, this event marked a historic step in the program as this was their first time officially competing in the NCEA according to Lynchburg Sports.

U of L Athletes Unite Against Interpersonal Violence

     At 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 in the Turner Gymnasium on Wayne Proffitt Court, the fourth annual One Love Escalation Workshop took place. 

This event, which focuses on helping students understand the signs of domestic and interpersonal relationship violence, began in August 2016 and was originally held for only varsity athletes. 

Over the past few years, however, this event has gotten so big as to be opened to all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Lynchburg.

Erika McLeod, LHSN’s Newest Addition

For the 2018-2019 school year, Erika McLeod has served as the assistant director for Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network (LHSN).

McLeod stated, “I direct the In Game Promotions and Fan Engagement; within this entity I handle the sports marketing by going out and connecting with local businesses and offer them an opportunity to sponsor our sporting events. I provide the entertainment during half time by hosting a contests for fans to participate in. I also host the Daily Buzz on Tuesdays, and have been the emcee for different campus events such as the Lynchburg Talent Show, the Faculty and Staff Holiday Party, and others. I produce feature stories that air on the Daily Buzz.”
