Relay for Life at LC

Lynchburg College held its annual Relay for Life event April 7 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. The beginning of the event was held on the Dell; however, due to inclement weather, the event was moved to Wake Field House.

Since 2006, 3,465 students have participated in Relay for Life at LC. Similar Relay for Life events are held all over the nation and aim to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Read more

Lending a Helping Hand

Park View Community Mission is a non-profit organization that  is dedicated to offer food services to financially insecure Lynchburg families through their Food for Families program.

The program serves roughly 700 families monthly by providing food options that differ from traditional canned food drives and soup kitchens.

“We try to meet all the needs of our neighbors [clients] and we are able to do this because we have so many different resources in one place,” said assistant director of Food for Families Rachel Koenig. Read more

LC Goes Greek

Sorority recruitment for the spring 2018 semester has begun. There are four sororities on Lynchburg College’s campus, each with their own philanthropic missions. The four sororities are Kappa Delta, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma. Read more

The Return of El Si

After only one semester, Lynchburg College has brought back El Si, a Tex-Mex restaurant, to On Common Ground (OCG), located inside of the Drysdale Student Center.

During the fall semester of 2017, El Si was replaced with a Hibachi-style Japanese fast-food restaurant called Chopsticks. Chopsticks had some tough shoes to fill as El Si had a strong reputation and appeal on campus. “I am glad they brought El Si back; a lot of students seemed like they didn’t like Chopsticks,” said senior Ashton Broughman. New Dorms for 2019

Lynchburg College on Nov. 3, 2017 announced the construction of a new residence hall on the grounds of McWane near Shellenberger field.

As part of its’ Vision 2020 plan, LC is on a mission to raise its profile and increase student retention rates.  The new residence hall will replace McWane Hall. Demolition is scheduled to begin  in the summer of 2018. According to LC’s webpage “[the hall plan was] adopted one year ago, Vision 2020 outlines three major goals for Lynchburg: student engagement, campus improvements, and stewardship. The upcoming residence hall project will be the first of several major facilities projects supporting those goals.” Read more

Hike with Haiti

On Oct. 29, 2017 Lynchburg College will participate in their 18th annual Hike with Haiti.

“Eighteen years ago a student named Rachel Tanner had gone to Haiti with another group of students. When she came back she had fallen in love with the people there, and when she came back she knew that she wanted to do something to support them,” said associate chaplain and director of the Bonner Leader Program, Anne Gibbons. This led to Tanner creating an event called Hike with Haiti. Read more
