Women’s Volleyball Ranked

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference coaches released their annual preseason poll on August 15, 2018, with the University of Lynchburg Women’s Volleyball team obtaining a rank of fifth-place, just 39 points behind number one ranked Washington and Lee University.  They were one of only five teams in the conference to reach the 100-point milestone. Running Back with the ODAC

The Women’s Track & Field program here at Lynchburg College has added on to their program’s history. On Saturday, April 22, they brought home another ODAC Championship title. This was the first title for their program since 2011 and their 9th overall.

The women won with a total 195 points, which was 30 points over the second-placed Bridgewater College. They placed in four individual championships as well, which helped lead them to the overall title. Read more

Hornets vs. Maroons

On Saturday, April 14,  Lynchburg College’s women’s softball team hosted Roanoke College in their annual military appreciation game. The day also doubled as their Code Red game. The double-header ended in a split, with each team taking home a win.

Roanoke won the first game with a final score of 12-7. The Hornets scored two runs in the first inning and five in the last, while Roanoke scored two in the first, seven in the last and one run each in the second, third and sixth innings. Read more

DIII Week for Student Athletes

Lynchburg College celebrated a nationwide event for Division III athletes, known as “DIII Week”  between April 2-8.The Lynchburg College Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) provided a week full of events for our students and student-athletes here on campus.

On Monday, a penny-war was started between the sports teams here at LC. The goal of this was not only to have a competition between all the athletes and their teams, but also to raise money for the water mission in Puerto Rico. Read more

Hornet’s Softball

This weekend, the Lynchburg College women’s softball team split a doubleheader with the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets.

R-MC was ranked fourth in the nation and was on a 21-game winning streak until LC brought that to an abrupt halt. The first game ended in extra innings where LC took the lead and won 6-5. Read more

Montgomery Cup Golfers

On March 23 and 24, the Lynchburg College men’s golf team travelled to play at the Montgomery Cup sponsored by Rosemont College.

The first round of competition was held on March 23 in Downingtown, Pa. LC was led that day by upperclassmen Josh Irby and Brandon Terrell. Irby got his momentum in the later round scoring a 1-over 73. Read more

Let’s Play Ball

The Lynchburg College softball team has started off their 2018 season on a high note. They currently are 11-3 overall and have a winning percentage of .786. After starting off 8-0, the lady Hornets were ranked 19 in the NFCA’s (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) top 25. Read more

Running Bases

This past weekend of Feb. 24 and 25, the Lynchburg College men’s baseball team went 3-1, after playing in two double-headers.

On Feb. 24, LC faced off against the College of Mount Saint Vincent and won both games of the double-header, 9-2 and 18-1. The Hornets were led by four seniors: right fielder Will Harris, first baseman Matt Ward, center fielder Brad Hylton and catcher Matthew Cotton. Harris went six for nine and brought in four runs. Ward hit a homer and brought in three runs. Hylton also hit a home run and went three for six bringing in five runners, and Cotton capped it all off with a home run of his own. Read more

Off to a Swinging Start

The Lynchburg College women’s softball team kicked off their 2018 season with a double header against Methodist University on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Liberty University.

The games were held at LU due to weather and the condition of the field here at LC. Nevertheless, LC defeated Methodist in both games. Read more

Lady Hornets Senior Appreciation

Saturday, Feb. 10, marked the final regular season home game for the Lynchburg College women’s basketball seniors. The Lady Hornets faced off against Washington & Lee University and defeated them 66-47.

Before the game began, the three seniors on the women’s basketball team were honored in front of LC fans and family members. These seniors included forward Brittany Afolabi-Brown, guard Olivia DeFrancesco and forward Caroline Naumann. Read more

Setting the Bar High

This past weekend, Jan. 26 and 27, the Lynchburg College women’s and men’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Liberty University Kickoff held right up the road.

LC ended the night having set new school and personal records. Natalie Deacon, who has already set previous school records in track during her first year competing, is now a graduate student who has once again set a record. Read more
