     On Friday, Oct. 25, the new residence hall, now officially known as Westover Hall, was dedicated on Shellenberger Field beginning at 11:30 a.m.

     The speakers for the dedication were Nat Marshall, chair of the Board of Trustees, President Garren, Deans Aaron Smith and Kristen Cooper, several students, and University Chaplain Stephanie McLemore.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

     The University of Lynchburg Theatre Department will perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Showtimes are Oct. 24-27, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m in Dillard Theatre. 

     According to the University of Lynchburg website, “[This is] not your ordinary Spelling Bee! The musical tale of several socially awkward youngsters finding joy, heartache, and a purpose in competing at the regional spelling bee. Can you spell H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S? Humor may not be suitable for children under ten. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).”

New Residence Hall Dedication Ceremony

     The University of Lynchburg will host a dedication ceremony in honor of the new residence hall completion on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at 11:30 a.m.

     President Kenneth Garren said that the purpose of the dedication ceremony is to “recognize in part some contributions to make it happen.” He shared that some of those contributions were in the financing and construction of the new building.

Community Service within Kappa Delta

     Community service is a vital aspect of Greek Life at the University of Lynchburg. Kappa Delta, like many other greek organizations on campus, tries to stay connected with the community outside of the school.

     The week of Oct. 21, 2019, KD will be giving out their women’s friendship month T-shirts that people have purchased. The idea of the shirt was to raise awareness for how important it is for women to care about each other, but also to try to build each other up.

Parking Issue For the New Residence Hall

Parking for the students that live in Freer, Shack, and the new residence hall has become a big issue at the University of Lynchburg.

   When the New Residence Hall was built, they lost over 100 parking spots for the students. 

            The University relined the Turner Gymnasium parking lot over the summer and changed the direction of the spots to create more space for the students.

Greek Life Houses on Campus

     On Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, the Office of Housing and Residence Life at the University of Lynchburg conducted an open discussion on housing concerns with the members of the Greek life community on campus. 

     The main objective of the meeting was to understand why the Greek houses were designated as such and if those allocations were in jeopardy.

      Homecoming Weekend for the University of Lynchburg is this weekend, Oct. 18-19, 2019.

      Jessica Jennings, the assistant director of alumni relations, said, “We will have events on Friday and Saturday. Saturday is our big day with the fourth annual tailgate for the university. On Friday, we have a couple of events for our alumni. We have our alumni awards dinner, and there is a reception before that.”
