On Sunday, Oct. 28, the women’s club soccer team travelled to Christopher Newport University (CNU) in Newport News, Va. to compete in a match against their club team.  With a slippery field and a gloomy day, the Lady Hornets came out on top in a tough match by a score of 2 to 0. Senior Caitlyn Harper scored both goals for the day.

“We went down to CNU with 12 players and an 80% chance of rain in the forecast.  Even with this, however, we not only won but dominated the game. It was a hard fought fight, and our girls gave it their all.  We landed on top with a 2-0 victory as a result of the team bonding and sheer love for the game that we all share. The team never stopped working hard, going that extra inch for their teammates,” said Harper.

Moral was high following the match as it illustrated the effort of the team, and it showed how much they’ve improved over the past few seasons of being together.  Junior, Schuyler Rowe said, “The University of Lynchburg women’s club soccer team has worked tirelessly to become a fearless unit worth rallying behind as we take our opponents head on.  This team is something I consider a sisterhood, and it acts as an amazing outlet for me and others on the team to counteract the stress of college life.”

The team hopes to continue to build a legacy of hard work and dedication while still displaying their joy to just play the game of soccer.  The program has grown immensely in the past few years and has many players of differing skill levels on the team. Nevertheless, the team shares a bond through passion and inclusivity.  “It was great to have a win after a few tough games, and it was even more fun to go on a long road trip that consisted of bonding time for the players,” explains sophomore Ciera Diederich.

Please come out to support your fellow Hornets at home on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10:00 a.m. against Virginia Beach City FC and on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 12:00 p.m. against the College of William & Mary’s B-team! The competition should be fierce!
