The men’s and women’s basketball team rosters were announced on the night of Friday, Oct. 18 in the Midnight Madness campus event hosted by Joe Hutzler, also known as “The Voice of the Hornets” and the rest of the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network crew. This event got the student body and faculty engaged and excited about the upcoming seasons for the two teams.

The women’s basketball team is especially excited to begin their upcoming season.  According to second-year player Meredith Vetter, the team has worked especially hard this off-season, lifting and doing boot-camps with Coach Edward Smith, the University’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, as well as practicing on their own consistently.  Second-year manager and fourth-year student, Christian Lohiser insisted, “The ladies did a great job with their fitness testing last week. Practices have started with high intensity as well.”

Vetter went even further to mention that the team’s culture has strengthened over this past offseason in a “family-like sisterhood.”

“We are all excited for the fresh start that comes from the start of a season.  We have five first years that have entered the program and seven second years that have returned.  I’m most excited to see how our chemistry grows as we get into season. It’s great to see the talent as the older team members have grown and become leaders for the team. This season, there are some awesome team-building and culture-growing opportunities for the ladies, including one trip in November to Emory University in Georgia and another in December to Daytona Beach in Florida,” said Lohiser.

“I’m excited for this upcoming season because I love this group of girls, and I’m excited to be back on the court after being injured for the past year,” adds Vetter.

The Lady Hornets will look to start off this season’s campaign with a win at home against Meredith College on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 12 p.m.  Next, the team will travel to Averett University on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Their in-conference regular season Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matches will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2019 against Guilford College at 7 p.m.  In total, the Lady Hornets will have eleven home matches. Please come out to watch your Lady Hornets compete on Wayne Proffitt Court in the Turner Gymnasium!
