On Oct. 14-15 2019, Nice as New, a thrift shop, will be on campus. They will be here from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and 4:30-7:00 p.m. This is a cool opportunity because they are coming to the school and students do not have to leave campus to get some of these awesome deals.
Thrift shopping has become trendy for many college students and millennials due to songs and famous people making it seem like a cool thing. A popular song that focuses on thrift shopping, is “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore.
Nice as New is a thrift shop in Lynchburg, VA where they sell and buy items that have been used lightly. Not only that, but according to their website, “We do not only sell clothes, accessories, and some houseware items. Our team also works in partnership with churches to give back! We are affiliated with Gleaning for the World Inc., Humane Society of Amherst County, and The Lighthouse.”
This consignment store is not only making shoppers look nice, but they are also giving back to the community. This is a nice concept because when a person is buying something at Nice as New, they know their money is going toward local nonprofits or charities, compared to shopping at brand stores.
Gracie Davidson, a senior, said, “I am really excited to see what this store has to offer because I really do like going to different thrift shops around Lynchburg. Maybe I will have to add this one to my list, as well.”
Emilee Nixon, a sophomore, said, “I think it is really cool that I can sell back my clothes right here on campus. I need to get rid of so many things and I also might buy some new things while I am at it.”
Both of these students think it is a cool idea to partner with a local business and also a business where it is for a good cause. There are already local businesses coming to the school selling things, but these students would like to see more and have different options.
