Join Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity

On Tuesday, April 02, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Hopwood 06, The Sigma Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. will be hosting an interest meeting for students who are curious about joining the fraternity.

According to the email sent on March 18, 2019, students who are interested in attending the meeting must bring a “copy of their transcript, something to write with, lots of questions, and a friend.” It also added that the dress code for this event is business casual.

The national website of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. states the main objectives of the fraternity are to, “stimulate the ambition of its members; to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, and dignity of the individual; to encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood; and to aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic, and intellectual status.”

Tyrome Harvey, President of the Sigma Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., said that the mission of the fraternity is to “develop leaders, promote brotherhood, and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our community.”  

Alpha Phi Alpha is active the community, Harvey said, “We participate in events such as ‘Voteless People is a Hopeless People,’ ‘Go-to-High School Go-to-College,’ ’Brother’s Keeper,’ and ‘Project Alpha.’”

Harvey also said, “I recommend this [fraternity] to anyone on campus who is willing to make a difference…because it is a life changing experience. Knowing how I can impact society and younger students’ futures, which is all I could ever ask for.”

Davion Washington, sophomore and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, said, “I am so proud to be a member of one of the greatest brotherhoods on the planet. Being an Alpha means caring for the advancement of desperate communities and bonding with fellow brothers who share like experiences and understandings. No matter where I go, I will always have a brother and I will always have the opportunity to aid communities through our historically black initiatives and endeavors. I am proud to be a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.”
