Sports Junkie: Trades, Trades for Days
Chris Snan, Staff Columnist~
This NFL offseason has been quite the eventful one. Kirk Cousins signing with the Minnesota Vikings and Michael Bennett with the Eagles, and let’s not forget about the Cleveland Browns adding Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry to their team. Just when you thought that trades were about to simmer down, teams decided to make even bigger changes to the NFL atmosphere involving guys like Aqib Talib, Case Keenum and Ndamukong Suh.
Keenum, former Vikings quarterback, signed with the Denver Broncos just a few weeks ago. After the season he had with Minnesota, a lot of people thought that he would stay there and take Minnesota to the NFC championship again, but Denver had other plans, offering Keenum a hefty two-year contract and paying him a total of $36 million. Keenum was also guaranteed $25 of the $36 million at the day of the signing. The Broncos are looking forward to what Keenum will bring to the table, and for now, can only hope that he’s worth what they are paying him.
In order to make the cap space for Keenum, Denver had to let go of one of their premier defenders. The Broncos traded their star defensive back Aqib Talib to the Los Angeles Rams after they already acquired Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs. In an effort to improve their already strong defense, the Rams have done just that by adding two elite corners to their secondary. But they weren’t done there. Recently, they also added one of the meanest defensive tackles to their front seven, Ndamukong Suh, in yet another big free agent move by the Rams. They are set to have one of the best defenses in the 2018-19 season.
Things are looking good for a lot of teams, which makes for a good season to come for us football fans.
