This past weekend, Jan. 26 and 27, the Lynchburg College women’s and men’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Liberty University Kickoff held right up the road.

LC ended the night having set new school and personal records. Natalie Deacon, who has already set previous school records in track during her first year competing, is now a graduate student who has once again set a record.

Deacon set the school record in the women’s 3,000-meter run by placing in seventh overall with a time of 10:23.54.

Alongside Deacon, several other members of the women’s track and field team placed in events. In the same event as Deacon, first year Kaitlyn Johnson finished with a time of 11:06.18. In the 5,000 meter run, junior Samantha Schreiber finished in ninth place with a time of 18:44.04. Wrapping it up for the women was junior Endasia Mitchell who placed in both track and field events. For track events, the junior finished 15th in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:21.1 and placed 25th for the high jump field event.

On the men’s side, LC was represented in the field events by junior Dalton Hoppe, who landed 16th place for the weight throw competition, and in track events by first years Andrew Hawk and Roy Stevenson. Hawk finished in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:10.07 and Stevenson ended with a time of 9:13:36 in the 3,000-meter run.

Finishing third overall in the men’s 4 x 400-meter relay was an LC team composed of junior Isaiah Williams, first years Azavier Kirtley and Kobe Anderson and senior Ryan Witter. They finished with a time of 3:30.31.

The next meet for the LC indoor track and field teams, the Vince Brown Invitational, will be held at Christopher Newport University on Feb. 4.
