The Bedford County Fair is back at Glenwood Oil and Automotive, Inc. starting this Thursday, Sept. 28 and lasting through Sunday, Oct. 1.

The Bedford County Agricultural Economic Development Advisory Board joined forces with the Bedford County Tourism Department to bring the fair back after a nearly 45-year hiatus. Gaining more popularity every year since its 2015 return, the Bedford County Fair is quite the attraction for rural Huddleston.

The fair is host to a number of different competitions and events, such as the Miss Bedford County Fair Pageant. Girls 22 and younger compete to be crowned the Queen in each division in a dress of their choice. Each contestant will be asked a series of questions and winners are requested to attend at least three Bedford County events over the next year. Queens of the Teen and Miss divisions will also each receive an $18,000 scholarship to Liberty University.

Other competitions the Bedford County Fair will include are a Youth Livestock Show and Car Show. The Youth Livestock Show competitors will all be either active FFA members or active 4-H members. Each exhibitor will be allowed to show up to four animals – either cattle, sheep, goats or swine. Winners of the lamb, goat or hog showman competitions will receive an award of $75, while winners of the steer or heifer showman competition will receive $100 rewards. The Car Show will be held on Sunday. Fair attendees are welcome to look at the cars at their leisure the whole day. Prizes will be awarded to winners for Top 20, Best Modified and Best Antique.

Not only is the fair hosting numerous competitions, but it will include food vendors and live music as well. There are several acts posted on the Bedford County Fair’s schedule of events throughout the weekend. One act will be the Ginger Snaps, who will be playing at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Ginger Snaps is comprised of Catherine Backus and Amy Kay Ellis, a popular local photographer. Ellis will also be playing a bluegrass set on Sunday with her family.

The fair has many attractions to offer for those looking for something to do for the upcoming weekend. Entry is free for all attending, though there are varying prices for tickets for the fair rides. More information can be found at bedfordcofair.com
