This past week, the Lynchburg College Women’s Volleyball team lost against Guilford College and Randolph-Macon College (RMC). Both of these teams are in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) alongside LC. While these two games move LC’s overall conference record to 0-2, their overall record is now 5-4.
The first game took place at home for LC against Guilford on Wednesday, Sept. 13, aiding as the conference season opener for both teams. LC lost this game 3-1. Senior outside hitter Mesa Willis added her fifth double-double to her stat sheet for the season after recording 16 kills and 10 digs.
The second game, against RMC, also took place at home for LC on Friday, Sept. 15. RMC, who was 11-0 in conference last season, defeated LC 3-0. During this game sophomore libero Lauren Stanford had 13 digs and two aces.
This game was a “Code Red” game for volleyball, in which all student athletes were asked to come support the lady hornets as they took on RMC.
When asked how the support in the stands from fellow athletes affected the team’s performance, senior defensive specialist Maral Tsolmon said, “It was so great to see the support from the other athletes. We love the enthusiasm.”
Now that the season has gotten started and the Lady Hornets have a few games, both conference and nonconference, under their feet, senior setter Lynn Walsh had this to say about her team’s main focus for this season as it continues, “Our team’s main focus is playing together and for each other.”
The next game for the LC Women’s Volleyball team will be Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Shenandoah University at 7 p.m.
